Description

“Aloo bhujia – koi bhi mood ho, ye kaam aata hai. Chai ke saath, pohe ke upar, ya seedha packet se.”

Our Aloo Bhujia is made from a blend of chickpea flour and boiled mashed potato seasoned with fresh masala, pressed into thin strands and fried fresh in pure groundnut oil. Light, crispy, moderately spiced. The kind of bhujia that tastes fresh because it is – made in small batches, not from a warehouse that has been sitting for months.

Aloo bhujia is the most versatile namkeen in the Indian kitchen. Straight from the packet, on top of poha or upma, in bhel puri, sprinkled over dal or curd – it works everywhere. This version is slightly less salty and less oily than mass brands because we control the seasoning and drain the oil properly.

How is this different from Haldiram or packaged bhujia?

Primarily freshness and salt level. Mass-produced bhujia is packaged months before you eat it and typically seasoned heavily to compensate for flavour loss over time. Ours is made in small batches and reaches you fresh. Less salt, less oil, more actual bhujia flavour. You notice the potato and besan rather than just salt.

What oil is used?

Pure groundnut oil. No palm oil, no mixed refined oils. Groundnut oil is the traditional choice for frying namkeen across North India and gives a cleaner taste with less greasiness compared to palm-based alternatives.

A key ingredient in homemade bhel. Adds the right crunch.

🎉

Party Snack Bowl

Mix with other namkeen for an instant party snack bowl.

🥗

As a Topping

Crumble over chaat, dahi aloo or salads for texture.

✈️

Travel and Office

Light, non-messy, satisfying. A great desk snack.

Pro tip

Add a handful of aloo bhujia to hot poha or upma right before serving. The bhujia softens very slightly in the steam and creates a texture contrast that is much better than plain peanuts or sev.

Storage tip

Store in a cool dry place. Keep the pack sealed tightly after opening. Consume within 3 weeks of opening for best crunch. Do not store in the fridge - moisture will make namkeen lose crispness.

Why Salteen

Aloo Bhujia is the most commonly bought namkeen in India - and also the one that varies most dramatically between fresh handcrafted and mass-produced. Commercial bhujia is seasoned very heavily because it sits in warehouses for weeks before reaching you. Ours is made fresh in small batches and reaches you within a short time of frying. Less salt, less oil, more actual flavour from the besan and potato. The difference is immediately noticeable.

What we are comparing Salteen Typical commercial brand
Freshness window Small batch, made fresh. Reaches you within a short window of frying. Mass-produced months in advance. Heavy seasoning compensates for stale flavour.
Oil or fat used Kacchi ghani cold-pressed mustard oil or pure groundnut oil. Own farm, Varanasi. Refined oil, mixed oils or palm oil. Source rarely disclosed.
Preservatives Zero. None at all. Sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate or similar synthetic preservatives.
Who makes it Banarasi women artisans in Varanasi, UP. Small batches every season. Factory workers, often outside the region named on the label.
Artificial colour None. Colour comes from natural ingredients only. Often added for visual consistency across batches.
Batch size Small seasonal batches. Made fresh every year. Mass-produced year-round from pre-processed or stored base material.
Satisfaction guarantee Order not right? Full replacement or refund within 7 days. No questions. Varies - many brands do not offer returns on food products.
