Raw Indian Gooseberries (Avla), Cold-pressed Mustard Oil, Whole spices and Natural Sun curing. Tangy, Aromatic and Preservative-free.
“Amle ka achar – sehad ke saath swad. Varanasi ki sardi ka sabse khas tohfa.”
Our Banarasi Amla Ka Achar is made from Indian gooseberry sourced from UP farms at peak winter season – the time when amla has the highest natural Vitamin C content. Each amla is scored by hand, coated in fresh masala and slow-cured in kacchi ghani mustard oil for 4 to 5 weeks.
Amla pickle is a winter staple in UP and Banarasi households. Tart, complex and deeply satisfying. When made properly it is one of the most interesting pickles in the Indian pantry – not just a condiment but a nutritional ritual.
Intensely sour with a warming spice note. The sourness mellows beautifully over the weeks in the jar.
Why is amla pickle considered healthy?
Indian gooseberry is one of the richest natural sources of Vitamin C in any food. When preserved in cold-pressed mustard oil without heating, the nutrients are largely retained unlike cooked or heat-processed products. Traditional Ayurvedic practice recommends amla in various forms for immunity, digestion and hair health. In pickle form, the oil-cured amla delivers most of these benefits in a way that is genuinely enjoyable to eat daily.
Is it seasonal?
Yes. We only make amla achar during winter when fresh UP amla is at peak quality – typically November to January. Outside this window we do not make it. This is why it is sometimes out of stock. When you see it available, it is genuinely fresh from that season.

Pro tip
Try eating one small piece of amla achar in the morning before breakfast. This is a traditional Banarasi and UP practice for immunity and digestion. The sourness wakes up the system and the oil coats the stomach gently.
Storage tip
Always use a dry spoon - no moisture ever. Keep tightly sealed at room temperature away from sunlight. Refrigerate after opening for longer shelf life. This achar gets better with age - the oil and spices keep maturing in the jar.
Amla Ka Achar is our most nutritionally significant product. Most commercial versions are made from stored amla available year-round. We make ours only in winter when fresh UP amla has peak Vitamin C content. The cold-pressed mustard oil curing preserves the natural compounds without heat processing. Sendha namak ensures no chemical interaction with the amla. Traditional healers and Ayurvedic practitioners have recommended amla in mustard oil for generations for exactly these reasons.
