The Salteen Story
नमक — जो सब कुछ जोड़े। Salt — the oldest preservative in human history. The foundation of every Salteen pickle.
Salt is the ingredient that makes preservation possible. Before refrigeration, before canning, before modern food science — salt was the technology that allowed humans to carry food through winter, through drought, through long journeys. The entire tradition of Indian achar is built on this one mineral's ability to draw moisture out of vegetables and create an environment where harmful bacteria cannot survive.
At Salteen, we use two types of salt. For our pickles, we use coarse rock salt or high-quality sea salt — both providing mineral complexity that iodised table salt lacks. For our namkeen, we use fine-grain salt for even distribution, and kala namak for chaat-style preparations where its tangy sulphurous character is essential.
Salt is the ingredient we think about least and need most. Every Salteen product begins with the question: how much salt? — and the answer requires the same skill and intuition that our mother applied to every batch she made.
Salt is not a seasoning you add at the end. In pickle-making, it is the foundation — the first ingredient that begins the transformation of fresh vegetables into something that will last for years.

The Flavour of Namak (Sea Salt)
Why It Matters
Health Benefits
Salt is an essential mineral that the human body cannot function without — but whose benefits require balanced consumption.
Electrolyte Balance
Sodium in salt is the primary extracellular electrolyte — essential for nerve transmission, muscle contraction, and fluid balance.
Iodine Source
Iodised table salt remains the primary iodine source for most Indian households — critical for thyroid function and preventing goitre.
Natural Preservation
Salt's osmotic action draws moisture from foods, creating an inhospitable environment for bacteria — the foundation of all pickle tradition.
Trace Minerals
Natural rock and sea salt contain trace minerals beyond sodium — absent in refined table salt.
Note: The above reflects traditional and general nutritional knowledge. Consult a healthcare professional for personal dietary advice.

🧂 Indian Salt Sources
We use different salts for different applications at Salteen. Coarse sea salt and sendha namak go into pickle preparations. Fine-grain iodised salt is used in namkeen. Kala namak goes into chaat masala preparations. Each type is sourced from established Indian mineral salt suppliers with food-grade certification.
