The Salteen Story
जावित्री — दुर्लभ, सुगंधित, और खास। Mace — the precious lacy covering of nutmeg — in Salteen's most refined spice blends.
Mace and nutmeg come from the same fruit of the Myristica fragrans tree — nutmeg is the seed, and mace is the brilliant red lacy covering (aril) that surrounds it. While nutmeg has a warm, slightly woody character, mace is spicier, more floral, and more delicate — considered by many chefs to be the more refined of the two.
At Salteen, javitri is used in our most premium spice blends and sweet preparations — ground fresh from whole dried mace blades. It appears in our premium laddu preparations alongside nutmeg and cardamom, where its spicy-floral character adds a dimension that elevates the whole spice blend.
Mace is rare and more expensive than most other spices — its presence in a Salteen product is a signal of quality and thoughtfulness.
Javitri and jaiphal together in a laddu spice blend create something more than the sum of their parts — a warm, complex, deeply satisfying aromatic that no single spice can replicate.

Where It Comes From
🌿 Kerala — Mace Blades
Mace is harvested from Myristica fragrans trees primarily in Kerala. The lacy red aril is carefully removed from the nutmeg seed, flattened, and dried to produce amber-coloured mace blades. We source from Kerala spice processors who dry mace properly — poorly dried mace loses its colour and aromatic compounds rapidly. We grind fresh from whole blades for each production batch.
