The Salteen Story

केसर — Salteen के सबसे ख़ास लड्डुओं की पहचान। Genuine Kashmiri saffron — the golden signature of Salteen's premium festive preparations.

Saffron is the world's most expensive spice by weight — each crimson thread is the dried stigma of the Crocus sativus flower, and each flower produces only three threads, all of which must be harvested by hand at dawn. In Kashmir, the entire saffron harvest happens over just two weeks in October, and the fields of Pampore turn a breathtaking purple for this brief window.

At Salteen, kesar is used exclusively in our premium preparations — festive laddus, certain murabba preparations, and our most elevated sweet products for gifting occasions. A few threads dissolved in warm milk or ghee release the characteristic deep golden colour and the floral, slightly honey-like aroma that immediately signals celebration.

We use genuine Kashmiri Mongra variety kesar — the finest saffron in the world. In a market flooded with adulterated and synthetic saffron, authenticity matters enormously. Real kesar should be deep red-orange, give colour slowly when dissolved in water, and smell intensely floral without any chemical undertone.

A pinch of genuine Kashmiri kesar in a festive laddu is not an extravagance — it is an acknowledgment that some occasions deserve the very best ingredients.

Where It Comes From

🌸 Pampore, Kashmir — Mongra Saffron

Kashmiri saffron from the Pampore region is harvested during the two-week October bloom. Each crocus flower is picked by hand at dawn before the petals open fully, and the three red stigmas are carefully separated and dried. We source Mongra grade saffron — the highest quality, characterised by all-red threads with no yellow style — from trusted Kashmir suppliers.
