The Salteen Story

जीरा — भारतीय मसाले का दिल। Roasted cumin — the warm, earthy spice that anchors every Salteen namkeen masala.

There is no Indian spice mix without jeera. It is the first spice into the hot oil in a tadka, the first thing toasted in a dry pan for a masala, and the defining warm note in every namkeen seasoning blend.

At Salteen, we use jeera in two forms. Whole cumin seeds go into certain pickle preparations where they provide texture and visual character alongside their flavour. Roasted and ground jeera goes into virtually every namkeen spice blend — its warm, smoky earthiness is the background note that makes our chaat masala, our bhujia masala, and our banana chip seasoning taste authentically Indian.

The difference between fresh roasted jeera powder and commercial ground cumin is extraordinary. We roast and grind ours in small batches for maximum aroma impact.

Roast jeera in a dry pan until it darkens and crackles — and the aroma that rises is the smell of Indian cooking at its most honest.

Where It Comes From

🌿 UP & Rajasthan Spice Suppliers

We source our cumin seeds from suppliers who work with jeera farms in UP and Rajasthan — two of India's primary cumin-growing regions. We source whole seeds and roast them ourselves in small batches for our masala blends, ensuring the aroma is at its peak when it goes into the product.
