The Salteen Story
तिल का तेल — जो Salteen के खास अचार में जाता है। Pressed sesame oil — the aromatic, antioxidant-rich secondary oil in select Salteen preparations.
Sesame oil occupies a different position in the Indian culinary hierarchy than mustard oil. While mustard is the dominant pickling oil of North India, sesame oil has its own tradition — particularly in South India and in certain specialist preparations where its deep, toasted nuttiness adds a character that mustard oil cannot.
At Salteen, we use cold-pressed sesame oil in select pickle preparations — particularly in certain special-edition products where its flavour profile is the intended feature. Its high antioxidant content — sesamin and sesamolin are powerful antioxidants unique to sesame — also makes it an exceptional natural preservative.
Til ka tel is also the traditional massage oil of Ayurvedic practice and is used in certain sweet preparations where its warm nuttiness pairs beautifully with jaggery.
Til ka tel has a completely different personality from sarson ka tel. Where mustard is aggressive and pungent, sesame is deep, warm, and slightly sweet. Both are perfect — for different purposes.

Farm to Jar
Where It Comes From
🌾 UP Sesame — Cold-Pressed Oil
We source our sesame oil from cold-press units in the Varanasi region that process white sesame seeds from UP farms using low-temperature pressing. Cold-pressed sesame oil retains its full complement of sesamin, sesamolin, and Vitamin E — all of which are degraded by heat during conventional processing.
