The Salteen Story

अदरक — ज़िंदगी में गर्माहट लाने वाला। From pickles to laddus — ginger's warmth runs through everything Salteen makes.

Adrak holds a unique place in the Indian kitchen. It is the one ingredient that crosses all categories — used raw in pickles, cooked in chutneys, ground in spice mixes, and folded into sweet preparations. In Banaras, a cup of adrak chai in the morning is as essential as morning prayers at the ghats.

At Salteen, we use fresh ginger root sourced from local farms. In our pickle preparations, it appears as whole strips in mixed vegetable achar, lending its warm, slightly fibrous texture and sharp heat. In our sweet preparations — particularly our dry ginger laddus — it appears as dried and ground sonth, with a more concentrated, warming sweetness.

Ginger's versatility is what makes it irreplaceable. No other ingredient bridges the gap between savoury and sweet as naturally as adrak.

In our kitchen, adrak was the one thing that was always there — in the chai, in the pickle, in the laddu. It was the constant.

Where It Comes From

🫚 Local UP Farms — Fresh Year-Round

Fresh ginger is available year-round from the farms surrounding Varanasi, with the best quality coming from the October harvest when roots are densest and most aromatic. We source directly from local growers, selecting firm, smooth-skinned rhizomes with minimal fibre and maximum juice content.
